Get Unstuck

Finding inspiration everywhere

Ever get that feeling of being stuck? Of not knowing where to go or what to do? Having no idea about your next step?

Whether you’re staring at a blank page where an essay or report should be or you’re taking a bigger picture look at your life and have no idea what to do to create the masterpiece you know is lurking inside you, it can be easy to fall into the trap of feeling like you have no ideas or options. The truth is that there are limitless sources of inspiration and encouragement – if you open yourself up to them.

One of the things we talk about in my chakra dance meditation classes is the idea of following your intuition. This can be really difficult if you’re not used to doing it or if you’ve been ignoring your gut for so long you question whether an idea is really instinct or your ego leading you into a trap.

The simple answer to fixing this is to start listening to your instincts and acting on them, but simple doesn’t mean it’s easy. When you’ve been disconnected from yourself for a long time, how do you even know what that little voice sounds like?

I’ll give you an example of something which happened recently to me.

I’ve been getting what I call nudges. This is when I have the idea to do something. This idea is accompanied by what feels like a physical nudge around my sacral chakra, a gentle push to take action. When I get this, I make a mental note to act upon it, but I don’t always follow through.

There’s a mentoring programme I want to do. It costs around £8000, but it wouldn’t matter if it cost £800 – at the moment, I don’t have that kind of money available. I desperately wanted to do the programme though and trusted that the money would somehow manifest.

One morning, I had a nudge to talk to the people running the programme about the possibility of writing for them in exchange for access to the programme. There are different tiers and I figured that I could provide enough value to at least get into the programme at a lower level, which would cost less.

Great idea, right?

But I didn’t follow through. I made a mental note, thought that I really should send an email – after all, it doesn’t hurt to ask – but didn’t do more than think.

So a couple of weeks later, I got a nudge again. Go talk to them about writing! I decided that if I was getting a second nudge, then this really was something I needed to action, so I sent an email, arranged a meeting and pitched my services.

Long story short, as it turned out, they needed a writer for various projects, but it had been a relatively low priority up until now. They told me what they’d need help with and it’s all stuff I’ve been doing professionally for years, so a very easy job for me, but one which brings a lot of value – enough value to get me onto the programme!

This little story marks a number of massive shifts for me:

  • I’ve never had the confidence to cold pitch someone before, so reaching out to see if someone needed my help was a completely new approach. Whatever the response, it felt good to know that I had thrown the possibility out into the universe with no attachment to the result and was taking steps in the direction I want to go.
  • In the past I would have assumed that money was the only way to get what I wanted. No money, no course. Now I’m opening myself up to inspiration, I’m starting to see that there are many, many ways to get to where I want to go. The more I appreciate this, the more options and opportunities come to me.
  • I had a clear instinct and I followed through on it. In the past, I might have dismissed the idea as being nonsensical. Someone need my services enough to give me equivalent value in their services? Piffle!

These are just some of the changes I’m seeing as a result of the inner work I’ve been doing. The more I’ve been meditating on certain situations, using mantras to calm my mind and developing the confidence to take aligned action following an idea, the more I’ve been moving in the direction I’m positive I’m meant to take.

I was asked to write a sample for the programme and I wrote a piece about finding inspiration. There were seven different examples in my article, but I could easily have come up with more. There are ideas everywhere. Someone might say something in a movie which resonates with you and makes you see things in a different way. You might spend time journaling every day and be struck by a new way of thinking.

You just have to open yourself up to seeing them – and then put those ideas into practice.

Learning to listen to your intuition is just one of the things we work on in my chakra dance meditation class. Come join us – now featuring new music every week!
